What inspires you?

For the month of April, I'm asking people one simple question, WHAT INSPIRES YOU? This question alone has caused me such an array of emotional states that I can't help but wonder what this means to others. When I'm not inspired, I want to be inspired, I wonder why I'm not inspired and I feel this rush of angst as if I'm not using my time on this earth of ours correctly.

I was talking to a good friend of mine last Saturday night, and she said that missing a sunset or a full moon causes her anxiety because it reminds her that she's missing the passing of time. It seems as if for her these naturally occurring elusive events are time's way of becoming visible.

Simply put, time is a measuring system. Having always been a major subject of religion, philosophy and science, it manifests itself in so many different ways and creates meaning for so many different people.

While the full moon has never been a poignant phenomenon for me in the past, this full moon felt different. I didn’t end up in the hospital, I didn’t get bit by a rabid dog, but I did slow down. I thought about what my friend had said and realized that by just gazing at the moon and seeing time, I was a part of something grand and everyone else was, too.
